Everybody has the responsibility for the protection of the environment of the earth, one of the rotating planets in the universe, PR and RD Minister Md Alauddin Khan said.
Alauddin was speaking as the chief guest during the observance of World Environment Day and To Planets Campaign at Leimakhong Mapal Community Hall today under the aegis of the Creations Society for Handicrafts and Goodwill in collaboration with Modern Youth Club, Leimakhong Mapal.
Alaudding also said that the ever increasing of human population on earth has panicked many experts.
He also said that climate change has been felt in Manipur too while adding that earlier the temperature of the state was somewhere between 20-25 degree Celsius and now it is somewhere at 30-35 Celsius degree.
Saying that felling down of trees has caused ecological imbalance which in turn effect in the temperature raise, he appealed all concerned to maintain ecological balance.
He also said that plantation of tress can also be done under NREGS.
The guest of honour of the function was Imphal East SP, Th Radheshyam while the president was the DC of Imphal East M Laksmikumar.
Meanwhile, the World Environment Day was also observed at Ebudhou Pakhangba Lai Mandop, Samurou Makha Leikai today under the auspices of the United Rural Women and Child Development Organisation.
The event was graced by Wangoi MLA Salam Joy, vice-chairperson of Samurou Nagar Panchayat Sarungbam Sanaton and former Head of Botany Department of DM College of Science H Nandi Ram Sharma as the chief guest, president and guest of honour.
Salam Joy stressed on the need to preserve the environment during the function.
H Nandiram Sharma said that the Environment Day was first observed in the state in 1984 while also calling the cooperation of the people for the protection of the environment.
At the same time, the Royal Riders Manipur has also organised a function in connection with the Day's observance at Kangla Hall.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of the function, former Principal of Manipur College, Prof N Sadananda said man's natural characteristics have slowly but surely faded with the advent of science and technology which led to the global warming.
Saying that the temperature rises in Manipur though there has been no industry in the state, he urged the government to enact for the preservation of environment.
A function was organised today at the Manipur Press Club, to mark the fuction under the aegis of the Environment and Human Development (EHUD).
The function was graced by Sahitya Akademi award winner, Arambam Memchoubi, Chairman of EHUD and Director of Academic Staff College, MU, Dr RK Ranjan, and secretary of Manipur Science Communicators' Association, L Somorjit as the Chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Arambam Memchoubi expressed concerned that the Nambul River is perishing due to the inattention from all and sundry while also advocating the need to preserve it.
Dr RK Ranjan said that the environment could be preserved by judiciously using motor vehicles and power enabled services.
Similar programme was also held today at Bishnupur Ward No.11 organised by the People's Resource Development Association (PRDA).
The event was attended by Medical Officer of Community Care Centre, Bishnupur, Dr Nanda Henamba, president of PRDA H Shanti, and PRDA secretary L Suranjoy as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
A rally was also taken out from Loktak Lift Irrigation to Bishnupur bazaar as part of the observance programme.
Meanwhile, volunteers of the CORE have conducted sanitation works at various places in Imphal area in connection with the World Environment Day.
The sanitation works which begun at 9 were conducted at places including Leikangthong, Khwairamband Bazar, Paona Bazar, Uripok Road, Nagamapal, Kanglapat stretch, and Sanjenthong.
The Social Volunteers' Association, Manipur has also observed the day with a simple function at its head office located at Sagolband Yengkhom Leirak Machin, NC Road with the theme 'Your planet needs you, united to combat climate change'.
