NAVSA, Porompat and Manipur Police advanced to the semi finals of the 11th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament being held at Mapal kangjeibung.
The first quarter match played today saw NEVFA scrape past LUKSA, Utlou via the tie-breaker on 8-1 scoreline after a goalless draw in normal period while the police veterans edged out HEVFA in sudden death after the score remained tied at the end of both the regulation period and tie-breaker.
In the LUKSA versus NEVFA penalty shoot-out of eight players each, only Golmei Ahanjao Rongmei managed to slip through the Porompat goal-tender N Herachandra who effected saves while one of the LUKSA efforts hit the upright and another sailed over the crosspiece.
with the second match also ending in a scoreless stalemate the penalty shoot-out by 11 players from each side ended at 10-10 with N hemchand of HEVFA missing the mark.
However, the NEVFA goalkeeper denied Paojulong of Manipur Police from converting the team's second shot to take the match to the sudden death where the police side eventually triumphed as Rajen Khangamba, Samson and Rajen succeeded.
M Devan and Gopal converted the first two HEVFA attempts into goals to keep the team in the race for the last four berth only to witness Bimol spill the opportunity as his shot went over the crosspiece.
