Wildlife smuggler imprisoned

Imphal, April 24 2015 :
In connection with the offence no 5, September 3, 2014 of Range Forest Officer/ Sadar East Range, Chingmeirong and the respective Cril (C) Case no.119/2024 of CJM/Imphal West regarding the seizure of 25 bags containing 991 KG of Sea Cucumber (Holothurians) from the Air India flight no.A1/711/31 from Kolkata to Imphal which comes under Schedule-I, Part-IV ( C) of the wildlife (protection Act 1972; the accused Sikander Singh Gill (44), son of late Gurmail Singh of Bathu Basti, Garacharama, Port Blair, Andaman was convicted under section 51 (1A) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and is hereby sentenced with simple imprisonment for a term of eight months with a fine of Rs 25,000 by CJM Imphal West Rk Memcha.
Further under section 60 A of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, a sum of Rs 10,000 will be given as a reward to the complainant, another Rs 10,000 will be given to the All Manipur Bar Association and Rs 5,000 will be given to the State.
