SPDPO celebrates 4th anniversary

The State Platform of Disabled People's Organisation (SPDPO) celebrated its 4th foundation day at Manipur Press Club here on Friday.
Deputy Speaker Preshow Shimray and SPDPO president Dr Sapam Jasowanta attended the function as chief guest and president.
Manipur State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities L Nabakishwor, Assistant Commissioner, Kangpokpi Chunglenmang Kipgen, senior advocate Daniel Ransan,All Manipur NGO Forum general secretary Kh Chinglen and Naharolgi THoudang editor Kh Loya were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Foundation for Innocent Smile, Netherlands chairman Willem Vries and BHS, Physiotherapist senior lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht and Board-member of the Foundation Innocent Smile, Netherlands attended the event as special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Speaker Shimray pointed out the shortage of manpower for the newly set up commission for persons with disabilities of the State.
L Nabakishwor, Commissioner for Manipur State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in his speech assured speedy distribution of disability certificates to all differently-abled persons, informing that these certificates are now issued by CMOs, CHs and JNIMS.
He informed that 60 percent of the disabled persons in the State have not been able to get disability certificates.
Nabakishwor said now there are a total of 54,000 disabled people in the State as recored in 2014 .
Nabakishwor assured that all benefits under all schemes will be provided to persons with disabilities.
SPDPO also submitted memorandums to Deputy Speaker Preshow Shimray and Nabakishwor demanding them to formulate a state policy for differently-abled people.
