Seven new ASF epicentres notified in Imphal East

Based on confirmation of African Swine Feyer (ASF) in Imphal East district, the district administration has notified more controlled areas and issued strict instruction for following the rules and guidelines as prescribed under Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Disease in Animals Act, 2009 .
In an order, the district administration declared new seven epicentres, where latest cases of ASF were confirmed.
The epicentres are piggery farms of T Rishikanta at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai (Heingang CD), Laishram Leibaklei of Top Khongnang Makhong (Kshetrigao CD Block), Y Suraj of Top Mayai Leikai (Kshetrigao CD Block), W Ibetombi of Kangla Sangomsang (Sawombung Block), Sanasam Kiranbala & Achom Roshan of Kangu Chingjin Khunou (Sawombung Block), Soibam Maniton of Arapti Awang leikai (Keirao CD Block) and L Robindra of Yairipok (Keirao CD Block) .
The order also notified area within 1 km radius of these epicentres as infected zone, within 10 km radius as surveillance zone, and area outside 10 km radius as free zone with immediate effect.
Consequently, the district administration has prohibited movement of pigs (dead or alive), and movement and sale of pork and feed within the infected zones.
It also instructed the veterinary and animal husbandry department to cull all pigs in the infected zone by following proper protocols, with strict instructions to restrict movement of all equipment/ tools as well as vehicles used in the farms that are having pigs, either infected or suspected to be infected, without following proper protocols.
Further, any person, who contravenes the provisions of the Act or obstructs the competent officers in performing their duties shall be held guilty of offence punishable under the Act, the order added.
