Imphal, November 06 2023:
Under the aegis of All India Trade Union (AITUC), Manipur, Manipur Barbers' Association organised a protest cum meeting at Irabot Bhavan, BT Road, here, on Monday demanding protection of territorial integrity of Manipur.
Speaking on the sidelines, AITUC Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar informed that the protest meeting was organised jointly by the district and state level representatives with regard to various demands including ending the ongoing conflict and restoring peace in the state, while upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Stating that the PM and the union home minister would be urged in December to restore peace in Manipur, in addition to staging protests in front of the parliament, he continued that the violence perpetrated by narco-terrorists from outside since May 3 has destabilised normal life of the people, while the blockade along the highway has affected both drivers and public.
As such, the need for a Highway Protection Force is becoming increasingly important.
The present conflict in the state has pot spared the street vendors, barbers, workers and labourers, he pointed out.
While the labourers, despite their difficulties are urging for preservation of Manipur's territorial integrity, the government instead of helping the labourers, are exploiting them of their entitled benefits.
The meeting was also attended by Loumi Lup secretary Ibobi, Manipur Silang Loumi Lup VP Radga, Manipur Barbers' Association advisor Sekhar Thakur and All Manipur Nupi Marup president M Sakhi as the presidium members.
