Imphal, July 16 2021:
Reacting against the order issued by CID Crime Branch prohibiting Qurbani (sacrifice) in connection with the Id-ul-Adha festival of the Muslim community which falls on July 21, All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) has appealed to the state government not to restrict religious freedom and practices.
Addressing a press meet held at its office in Hatta here on Friday, AMMSO president Ayub Khan urged the government not to interfere in the Islamic religious practices of the Muslims, while expressing hope that the government will respect the religious sentiments.
Any act contradicting the same will prove to be more problematic especially amidst the current Covid pandemic, he remarked.
Further urging CM Biren to respect and uphold the trust of the Muslim community, the president then called upon followers of Islam for avoiding unnecessary gathering while offering namaz or during the Qurbani practice.
He further urged the followers to adhere to Covid-19 SOPs, while expressing belief that the festival will help strengthen the communal bonds in the state.
