IGAR (S) conducts inaugural AR, MU webinar

Under the aegis of DGAR, IGAR (South) hosted the Inaugural Assam Rifles and Manipur University Webinar on Wednesday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the webinar was conducted on the theme "North East Beyond Insurgency and Ethnic Divide - Aspirations and Opportunities with focus on Manipur" with Governor Dr Najma Heptulla attending as chief guest and delivering the key note address.
DGAR Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan opened the proceedings highlighting the key aspects of theme.
The Director General also highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding between Assam Rifles and Manipur University signed on March 6, 2021 for establishing 'Assam Rifles Chair of Excellence' for a period of three years.
The webinar highlighted the challenges in peace and developments in North East India due to of insurgency and ethnic faultiness with special focus on Manipur and recommended measures for sustainable peace and development.
The webinar witnessed local intelligentsia such as Prof N Lokendra Singh, Prof K Ibo Singh and Prof Amar Yumnam of Manipur University sharing their rich knowledge and experience in their respective field, the PRO said, adding that army veterans having extensive knowledge of the region including the first general from Manipur Lt Gen (Dr) K Himalaya Singh, Lt Gen AK Sahni and Lt Gen P Menon, prominent personality from National mainstream media including Palki Sharma Upadhyay and renowned author Jaideep Saikia also speaking during the event.
The webinar also included special address by Spear Corps commander Lt Gen Johnson P Mathew.
The webinar was heavily subscribed and well received by the top officials of Manipur Civil and Police, Assam Rifles, various think tanks, faculty and students of Manipur University and DM University, cadets from NCC Manipur and Sainik School Imphal, faculty of many national universities and media persons.
Such events are being organised by Assam Rifles with an aim for discussions and interactions on topics of relevance to the North East region, providing common platform for stakeholders in the region to exchange ideas and views of each other, the PRO informed.
