Imphal, August 10 2019:
Lauding the statement made by IGP Clay Khongsai and SP of Imphal West Meghachandra that the investigation into the death of Ningthoujam Babysana should not be hampered by public pressure as it is a very sensitive one, CPI Manipur State Council has reasoned that the public needs to cooperate with the investigating authority so that the investigation can be done in a free and fair manner.
A press release issued by the secretary of CPI Manipur State Council then urged the Manipur Police Department to refrain from making any unwanted statements before the public thus creating problems forthwith in the interest of criminal justice system existing in the country.
Pointing out that it would be right to hand over the case to the CBI, it opined that it will also be best for the Government to convene a State Cabinet meeting to ensure speedy handing over of the case to the CBI.
This decision should have been taken in the last Cabinet meeting.
The failure to do so has resulted in discontentment and anguish among the general public, it alleged.
On the other hand, the All Manipur Catholic Union (AMCU) has strongly condemned the death of Ningthoujam Babysana inside the hostel of Standard Robarth Hr Sec School.
The union further appealed to the State Government to ensure speedy justice for the deceased student and to award befitting punishment to any involved individuals per the laws of the land.
AMCU will support any democratic form of agitation until justice is delivered, it added.
