All Manipur Multilingual Dance, Music, Vocal & Instrument competition / festival begins

Academy of Performing Arts (APA) Thoubal kicked off an All Manipur Multilingual Dance, Music, Vocal & Instrument competition cum festival with the title 'Hongnemba festival of dance & music" at Thoubal melaground today.
The festival was organised as part of the 14th foundation day of APA Thoubal, which will continue till August 12, reports our correspondent.
JNMDA Director L Upendro Sharma, Indian Solidarity Council New Delhi Associate Member Dr Akoijam Priyokumar and Sports Authority of India Takyel retired Assistant Director Konsam Michael attended the inaugural function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

APA convenor Ak Ramananda Meitei said that the festival aims to provide a platform for young and talented artistes and maintained that the name "Hongnemba" was derived from 33 AD during the reign of Nongda Lairen Pakhangba so as to bring the present generation closer to the origin/roots of the people of the State.
JNMDA Director L Upendro maintained that the youth participating in the festival should understand the love and support of their parents/guardians.
He further stated that earlier, people understood human as well as educational values.
Although they were not excelling in academics, they were well aware of discipline and moral values, he remarked.
However, with the change in time, many shocking incidents are happening on a daily basis which is not a sign of development, he added.
Academy of Performing Arts is affiliated to International Amateur Theatre Association France and International dance Council (CID-UNESCO) Paris.
The festival started with a Pena performance by students of Manipur University of Culture and students of APA Thoubal presented folk dance.
A felicitation ceremony for students of the academy who participated in the National competition was also held.
