Bodies urge for Manipuri member in Karbi Anglong AC

Manipuri CSOs in Assam's Karbi Anglong district have appealed for reserving a seat for a Manipuri member in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
Karbi Anglong Manipuri Cultural Association, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Assam Karbi Anglong District Committee, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union Karbi Anglong District Committee, and Meira Paibi Lup Karbi Anglong District Committee jointly submitted a memorandum in this regard to the chief executive member of KAAC Dr Tuliram Ronghang on June 29.In the memorandum, the bodies stated that a large number of Manipuri population, as an indigenous community, has been living in Karbi Anglong district of Assam since several decades.
They have been living in Manja, Bokajan, Diphu, Dhansi-ri, Shilonijan, Mohendijua, Borjan, Amarajan, Sarihajan, Nagaland border, Boriengrijan, Khatkhati, Shanti Basti, Paka Field and Gilani under Rongkhang MAC constituency; Hamrem, Kopili, Amreng, Phangtengprang and Deramukh under Bithung constituency and many other locations of the district.
"In order to maintain social and cultural security as well as overall development of the Manipuri community living in the district, a nominated member in autonomous council of KAAC is obligatory", the memorandum said while urging to allow them to participate in the overall development of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
