Many seek immediate road repair

Bishnupur, January 24 2018: The repairing work along Tiddim road from Terakhongshangbi to Moirangkhunou (6 km), under Moirang AC has been left unfinished.

Only half of the stretch has been properly completed while the other half has been left unfinished thus resulting in immense hardships for the locals as well as the passersby.

The rock layering of the six km road began from around June-July, last year, while only a portion of the road from Terakhongshangbi till Kwakta Khuman Thongkhong was double layered with rocks and was recently black topped in December, last year.

However, the repairing work halted after single rock layering on the remaining part of the road from Khuman Thongkhong till Moirangkhunou.

The grave flood of 2017 worsened the condition of the unfinished portion of the road and left several potholes in the middle of the road.

Meanwhile, the two bridges at Khuman is in a deplorable condition at present causing numerous mishaps in the past few years, reports our correspondent.

Speaking to our correspondent on the issue, Sandhong Women's Welfare Association secretary Toijam Ranjana Devi stated that the six km stretch has always been in a bad condition for more than four years.

The previous Government began repairing the road but left it unfinished, she lamented while asserting that the said road is the sole lifeline of the villagers and the students, businessmen and passerby face innumerable grievances due to the pathetic condition of the road.

The locals had high hopes that the present Government would finish the road in the interest of the people but no improvements have been made till date, she claimed.

She sought immediate intervention of the State Govt in completing the unfinished portion of the road while cautioning that the association along with the locals are set to take up stringent agitation including blocking of the road, if the Government as well as the authority concerned fail to heed the demands of the people.

Sadhong Guide Union joint secretary T Amarjit has stated that the dilapidated road has always been a major debating issue among the locals for a long time and added that the recent flash floods have augmented the already pathetic condition of the road.

He urged the local MLA and the State Government to finish the stretch at the earliest considering the interest of the public.

Meanwhile, one villager of Kwakta Khuman addressed the grievances of crossing the dilapidated bridges at Kwakta Khuman.

He urged the authorities concerned to look into such infrastructures which are not fit for use and are heavily damaged due to wear and tear.
