Imphal, January 24 2018:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has strongly condemned the alleged torture committed against the agitators of Lilong Haoreibi College and has urged the State Government to take up necessary actions against the Principal in-charge of the college for allegedly misappropriating a large amount of the college fund.
Speaking to media persons at SSUM office at Keishampat today, its convenor, publicity and propaganda committee, Naorem Tanoranjan claimed that the police brutally thrashed a group of student agitators at Lilong Haoreibi College while they were holding a protest in connection with the alleged fund misappropriation by the Principal in-charge of the college, Md Sahidur Rahaman.
He further said that some student agitators held a talk later with Thoubal DC and the DC assured to organise further talks with the representatives of State Government, including the Education Minister, on January 28 .
Conveying that SSUM and the student union of Lilong Haoreibi College will wait for the talk, Tanoranjan warned that the association will launch intense agitations if the Government representatives do not provide any positive response during the talk.
