Code for student unions' polls laid out

The Joint Students' Co-ordination Committee of AMSU, DESAM, MSF, KSA, SUK and SWAK has laid down certain rules and regulations to be followed by all the intending candidates in the ensuing elections to the various Student Unions of colleges for the academic session 2013-14 .
Briefing media persons in this regard, Thangjam Premananda, Convener, Joint Students' Co-ordination Committee stated that the rules that should be abided by all the intending candidates.
Accordingly, candidates can campaign for election only inside their respectively college campuses and not beyond.
No posters, cards or any identifying pictures of the candidate can be used for electioneering purpose to woo voters.
No tea party, grand feasts and presentation of gifts in the form of cash or kind to students can be done and home campaign would be prohibited strictly.
He further informed that all the intending candidates have to face open discussion so that the fittest one can be identified and chosen by the students.
While the election code of conduct is in force, no picnic, study tour, cinema and charity show would be allowed.
Use of drugs and alcohol in and around the college campus would also be prohibited.
No student of a particular college can enter the campus of another college to carry out election campaign.
Moreover, no candidate can apply to be a member of more than one student body; no member of the co-ordinating committee can be candidate, inner agent, proposer, seconder and counting agent, he said adding that the candidates found not abiding by the rules would be expelled from contesting in the election.
Even if they were found violating rules, after they are elected, they would be made to resign.
