Kangpokpi, February 15 2015:
Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam will assume the role of an opposition legislator inside the Manipur Legislative Assembly, informed Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution who is also the President of Lok Jana Shakti (LJS).
He was speaking during a felicitation function held in his honour at Chajing Mairenthong by LJS State Unit on Saturday.
Paswan added that the necessity for Shyam, the lone LJS MLA in the state Assembly, to occupy the opposition bench arose as LJS is now a part of the NDA government led by Narendra Modi and the previous alliance between LJS and Congress under UPA is no more in existence.
Consequently, LJS will no more be a part of the Congress-led SPF government in Manipur, remarked the LJS president.
He added that Shyam had been instructed to take the role of an opposition MLA and serve the people of Manipur.
Being an opposition legislator in Manipur will not come in the way of participating in the party's activities for the betterment of Northeast, affirmed LJS president.
Later, Karam Shayam said he will follow the instruction of the party and will serve the people of Manipur by sitting in the opposition.
It may be recalled that Shyam is at present embroiled in a disqualification case that is presently being examined by a Speaker's tribunal.
Other MLAs from Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) are also facing disqualification charges.
