With the inauguration of the much-awaited operation facility at Moreh sub-district hospital, Directorate of Health Services Director Dr Okram Ibomcha personally conducted the first caesarean section surgery and helped a young woman deliver a baby boy yesterday.
Apart from deputing 13 doctors specialised in surgery, paediatrics, anaesthetics and medicine, necessary infrastructure and equipment have also been installed at the hospital for this purpose.
Dr Ibomcha, who is also the Project Director of State Health Mission, said that it was a historic day for the hospital as people of the border town would not need to rush to Imphal or Tamu for the cases requiring surgery now.
Urging the denizens of Moreh to get the facility, the Director said that ambulance would be at their doorsteps just by dialling 102 .
Stating that the hospital would not charge anything for the ambulance and operations from the patients, the Director said that necessary steps would be taken up soon to enhance toilet facilities and water supply as well.
As the hospital now has staff quarters, medical staff would be available round the clock for emergency cases, he added.
Regarding spread of swine flu, Dr Ibomcha said that Directorate of Health Services has taken up necessary measures for early detection and prevention of the disease.
As the number of flights has increased, there is need to remain vigilant at Imphal airport, he added.
Saying that Swine Flu Cells have been opened in all the districts, Dr Ibomcha said that information related to symptoms and preventive measures have already been made public through the media.
Adequate quantity of Tami-flu vaccine has been acquired by the State Government, he said and added that the said vaccine is available in the market as well.
Stating the symptoms of the disease are severe cough with diarrhoea, vomiting, tiredness and fainting, Dr Ibomcha urged the public to immediately rush to a nearby medical facility for testing.
Meetei Council, Moreh president Mayanglambam Thoiba said that the newly launched operation facility at the sub-district hospital is a boon to the people of Moreh as they would not need to rush to Tamu spending a huge amount of money for operations.
Thoiba also thanked the Director for recruiting nine nurses from Moreh which according to him would facilitate running of the hospital round the clock.
Soukhulun Baite of Tribal Council said that the opening of operation theatre was a special occasion for the people of Moreh.
This facility would end the medical woes up to a great extent in the border town, Soukhulun said.
He added that this facility would not only benefit to the people of Moreh but also Myanmarese citizens.
