CDOs accused of thrashing VDF man

Accusing a team of Imphal West district police commandos of assaulting a VDF volunteer without any rhyme or reasons, the All Manipur VDF Welfare Association (AMVWA) has warned of launching intense agitation if no stringent action is taken against police commandos involved in the assault of the VDF volunteer within June 15 .
Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, spokesperson of AMVWA, Md Riyaz Khan said that a VDF volunteer, Khundrakpam Jiban (33) s/o Birchandra of Ningthoukhong Ward No 3 was assaulted by a team of police commandos on June 8 around 1 pm.
The police commandos who were coming in a Gypsy inscribed with IW CDO-14' allegedly assaulted Kh Jiban who was coming to Khwairamband bazar for marketing.
Jiban is attached with the traffic control police of Bishnupur district police.
Vehemently condemning the assault on Jiban, AMVWA spokesperson Riyaz said the association will launch intense form of agitation if the authority concerned fails to take action against the police commandos involved in the assault within June 15 .
The victim, Jiban said that he was coming to Khwairamband bazar for marketing with the permission of the higher authority.
The police commandos who were coming in a Gypsy inscribed with CDO-IW 14 asked him why he was putting a mask.
He told them that he was wearing the mask as he was not well.
After identifying himself as a VDF volunteer, the police commandos started assaulting him after making abusive remarks against him.
He was later handed over to City PS.
Jiban said he was released from the PS around 5 pm.
He got treatment at a private clinic at Ningthoukhong later the same day, he said.
