Imphal, October 19 2015:
Manipur Government should immediately take up measures to rehabilitate the villagers of Chadong village affected by the Thoubal Multipurpose Project or the Mapithel Dam, asserted four clan leaders of the village.
During an interaction with media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, the representative of the committee of four clans of Chadong village (Kasar, Kasung, Mahong and Mungva) R Kasar said that Mapithel Dam which was constructed with the goal of providing irrigation facilities and electricity to the people has forced the villagers of Chadong village to reel under hardships.

Chadong village sunk under water because of Mapithel Dam.
Many houses, paddy fields, farms and other properties went under water while villagers are facing difficulties to survive.
But Manipur Government has continuously turned a blind eye to the issue, alleged R Kasar and blamed the State Government for engaging with divide and rule policy with the villagers.
Over 1400 people have been rendered homeless and are now fighting for survival since their livelihood have been adversely affected by the Mapithel Dam.
Fishing, farming and other activities were the only works for the survival of these villagers.
There is no way other than using canoes and makeshift boats if any villager wants to visit the village.
Many students are living without education after their school was submerged under the water, said R Kasar.
While appealing the Manipur Government to immediately look into the matter and rehabilitate the villagers soon, R Kasar said in connection with the issue, a memorandum was also submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi in April 17 last but nothing has been done till now.
