Chakpi River flood destroys crops; affected farmers seek relief

Chandel, July 27 2015:
Flooding waters of the Chakpi River caused by incessant rain on Sunday night extensively damaged maize and paddy crops along the banks of the river beginning from Monsang Pantha Village to Modi Village.
Even though the exact extent of the damaged could not be immediately ascertained, farmers of Lamphou Pasna, Modi, Chandel Christian, Lambung, Hnatham, Hnahringkhu, Riverlane, Japhou, Mantri Pantha and Monsang Pantha village were the worst affected ones as most of the fields and gardens of these farmers were on the bank of the river.
A reliable source informed this correspondent that the Chakpi River has caused extensive damage to maize and other crops near the river banks in Akaphe Village in Chakpikarong Sub Division.
It has also been reported that Chakpi River is flowing above the danger level and had also washed away most of the pig styes located on the bank of the river at Chakpikarong Bazaar.
Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) has appealed the District Administration to assess the crop loss and extend possible help to affected farmers.
