Imphal, July 27 2015:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI) and Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long (ITSL) have appealed to all concerned to immediately lift the bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road.
In a joint statement, TKLI and ITSL said that it is very unfortunate that Ukhrul district has to bear the brunt of the bandh imposed by the JAC in connection with the death of Robinhood.
"For every injustice and brutality meted out by the State Govt, it would be quite irrational and unwise to have intentions of victimising a single community or district," it said.
"Imposition of bandh along the Ukhrul-Imphal road appears to be pursuing more of a sectarian interest than a public one," added the two Tangkhul bodies.
Pointing out that Ukhrul district has been bearing the brunt of bandh whenever a bandh is imposed in Manipur, the two Tangkhul bodies said that it has greatly embittered the sentiments of Ukhrul public.
Condemning the alleged brutality of Manipur police resulting in the death of a student, Sapam Robinhood, TKLI and ITSL said they have been not only lending moral support but also expressing solidarity by participating in sit-in protests.
They reiterated that their participation in the agitations to condemn the police brutality against the students should not be misinterpreted.
Their participation in sit-ins to condemn the killing of the young student should in no way be interpreted as supporting or endorsing the ILPS movement.
The two bodies pledged to continue supporting any movement against injustice and any form of human rights violation.
They also urged all concerned not to misinterpret their participation in agitation against police brutality in the interest of peace and harmony.
