Public support vital for saving theatre from declining: Gaikhangam

There is a need for corrective measures to save the theatre from its declining stage and in this regard, public support is vital, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has stated.
He was speaking while attending the seventh day of the ongoing 3rd Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Festival at Maharaja Chandrakriti Auditorium here today where a play, 'Ringchammei Thang Theichammei' of Longdamei Art and Culture Academy, Keishamthong was staged as the main attraction.
Gaikhangam observed that the Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Festival has brought the hills and valley people together through the art form of theatre.
He further said art and culture are the backbone of the society and theatre is such a platform which encourages peace and development through its message in the form of fine artistic performance.
'Ringchammei Thang Theichammei' directed by Star Kamei is the Kabui translation of 'Hingminnabagi Mahut Siminnaba' written by Khundongbam Brojendro.
The festival which is being held on the theme 'Theatre for Peace and Friendship' will conclude on January 28 .
On the concluding day, the play 'Little Jasmine', would be staged and the occasion would be graced by Governor VK Duggal and Padmashree Ratan Thiyam as Chief Guest and President respectively.
