High grade limestone found at Sugnu

Rich deposits of high grade limestone sufficient enough to run a cement factory have been discovered at Sugnu in Thoubal district.
According to reports from State Commerce and Industries Department, some places in Chandel, Churachandpur and Thoubal districts are said to have rich deposits of limestone.
However, the Department has not yet conducted any survey to ascertain the fact.
The limestone deposits at Sugnu have been discovered by a team of some private individuals.
As per the survey report of these private individuals, rich deposits of limestone have been found at the hilltop of Nung Phura, Nungpan, Yangkhel Hills and Khubung Khunou under Sugnu.
But, the team is yet to ascertain the exact quantity of the limestone deposits.

Significantly, their finding has shown the prospect for setting up a cement factory capable of producing 300 tonnes of cement daily.
Limestone is the major ingredient of cement.
About eight tonnes of limestone is required in the production of five tonnes of cement.
The cement factory would be best suited at Sugnu area as the Chakpi River nearby would be a perennial source of water to the factory.
