Troops of 54th Bn BSF today detected an IED near a culvert between Torbung Bangla and S Kolin village in Bishnupur district early this morning.
The BSF troops were patrolling the area in their vehi- cles when they saw a man standing suspiciously near the culvert on the western side of the highway.
When the troops called the man, he ran away and escaped taking advantage of poor visibility.
On scanning the area, the troops found a bag which looked like a bomb.
Later, a bomb disposal squad of the army confirmed that the bag contained an IED.
Further, BSF's commando teams conducted search operation in the area.
However there is no report of any arrest.
The remote-controlled IED which weighs about 8 Kgs was later set off safely by the bomb disposal squad.
Meanwhile, United Revolutionary Front Manipur has claimed that the IED detected by BSF troops was planted by its armed wing Manipur Army.
The IED was planted there to target Indian military forces though aborted, said a release issued by the outfit's information and publicity secretary Sanajaoba Meitei.
Notably, troops of 6 AR recovered one IED from Ok-shobung while 1/11 GR troops recovered an IED from under a culvert between Tor-bung and Kangvai yesterday.
