Imphal, January 25 2014 :
Against the backdrop of the alleged Govt's indifference to various corrupt and unjust practices dodging the State like recent reports of mark tampering and anomalies in police recruitment, Advocate Khaidem Mani, president of All Manipur Bar Association has given the clarion call to the people that it is now time to start a campaign for changes.
Holding misgovernance responsible for all the ills afflicting the State like corruption, injustice, rights violation, increasing rate of crimes against women, failure of law and order, Advocate Khaidem Mani called upon the people for collective campaign under the banner 'People for Change' .
Addressing media persons today at his (AMBA) office chamber, Kh Mani said that if a citizen does not oppose corruption or injustice or gross rights violation then he/she is encouraging it.
He said corruption is not about the misuse of money but also about the misuse of power while adding that corruption is abuse of public office or influence for personal gain.
Kh Mani further said that corruption is not only about bribe in Govt offices, but also about various forms of manipulation and blackmailing, political arm-twisting, physical elimination of political opponents, interfering in election process, marginalising legitimate claims, silencing the voices of the weaker sections, fixing matches et al.
It has also reference to hidden deals, unpaid salaries, underpaid employees and unfair pressure.
In order to fight such injustices in the State like-minded citizens need to come together under a banner, Advocate Mani said while adding that the campaign could be launched by means of litigation, advocacy and via media.
He further urged all concerned to join the campaign for change under the banner People for Change.
