Imphal, August 27 2021:
Decrying alleged failure of the New Keithelmanbi police station to nab the remaining 15 persons out of 19 involved in assaulting some womenfolk about a month back, Ichum Keirap Kom Youth Club (IKKYC) and Ichum Keirap Kom Women's Welfare Association have urged the government to bring to book all the culprits to make perpetrators think twice before committing crime against women.
While claiming that culprits are roaming freely without any fear, a joint statement of the Kom bodies termed as ironic that the New Keithelmanbi PS acted promptly in registering FIR against three innocent villagers including the village chief and falsely implicating them with the ulterior motive to force withdrawal of the FIR lodged against the actual assaulters.
They also wondered as to why the assault case of Ichum Keirap Kom which took place on July 17 is being overlooked, while a social media post against a woman in recent month led to the arrest of the culprit.
All women are equal and as such should be treated equally, they said.
The organisations also alleged insensitiveness on the part of the incumbent Kangpokpi district's superintendent of police in handling the case of assaulting the womenfolk and reminded that the police officer in duty-bound to uphold law of the land and discipline the law breakers.
On the other-hand, the statement dismissed as baseless Kom Union president's allegation that Ichum Keirap Kom village chief incited the violent incident that took place on July 17 and accused the president of siding with the women's assaulters.
