Imphal, August 27 2021:
Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) earnestly appealed to all concerned to refrain from distorting the history which may misinterpret the actual and true accounts of the history.
HERICOUN in a press release lauded the Government's initiative of developing the Indian National Army (INA) complex at Moirang but expressed concerned over the words engraved which read as 'The Indian Tri-colour flag was hoisted here for the first time on the sacred soil of India by the Indian National Army on the 14th April, 1944' .
Stating that the words are misleading HERICOUN reiterated that Manipur became a part of India only in 1949 and not in 1944 which is validated by many experts and historical records.
HERICOUN thus sought the attention of the Chief Minister into the matter and urged him to ensure that such misleading facts are rectified so that the true accounts of history are carried forth to future generations.
Further HERICOUN appealed to the Chief Minister to develop sacred sites such as Kangla, Langthabal fort and important places in Moirang into archaeological and historical sites to retain its original identity and significance.
