ATSUM demands action on Jaipur case

Imphal, July 11 2013: All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has demanded the government of Manipur to book all the people involved in the child trafficking case of Jaipur immediately and give them befitting punishment.

Muan Tombing and Vareiyo Shatsang led ATSUM said Pastor Jacob John and his accomplice had carried out evil deeds where no appropriate words are available to describe them.

The ATSUM statement came following a report in an Imphal daily The Sangai Express which said," Medical examination of the children rescued from an illegal children home at Jaipur, Rajasthan has confirmed all the girls aged between 9 and 20 years have been raped or sexually exploited as the hymen of 13 girls were found ruptured".? .

Reacting to this report, ATSUM said the act committed by Pastor Jacob John was not of human being's deed and added, "Evil is rearing its ugly head in the form of Pastor Jacob John" .

ATSUM then said confidently pointedly out that wittingly or unwittingly there are pastors, theology (Bible) students and Church workers deeply involved in 'this unholy nexus in the child trafficking' .

On March 12 this year, young girls and boys including minors from Manipur and Nagaland and elsewhere had been rescued after two children homes in Jaipur were raided by a joint team of the Tangkhul Shanao Long-Delhi, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Rajasthan, social workers, activists and media persons.

Both the children homes are called 'Grace Homes' which were illegally run by one Jacob John, flouting every norm and guideline laid by the Child Welfare Committee.

He was arrested under the Indian Penal Code section 344,366 and 370(5) and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 section 23 and 28.TSLD was informed about the existence of these homes by a former inmate.

TSLD then got in touch with the concerned authorities in Jaipur.

Of the 51 children rescued from two children homes in Jaipur, Rajasthan, 30 children are from Ukhrul district of Manipur.

Of them, 22 are girls and 8 children are boys.

There are also some children from Chandel district and elsewhere in Manipur.
