Imphal, August 25 2021:
Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has appealed to the people of Zeliangrong and kindred tribes to observe the Haipou Jadonang death anniversary on August 29 with a solemn ceremony, hoist black flags, light candles at 6:30pm in every household and wherever needed.
The Front, in a statement issued by its information and publicity secretary KD Gangmei, said that all the people of the land (Zeliangrong) ought to pay respect to Haipou Jadonang by upholding the traditional way of honouring the death of a warrior.
"The ZUF would like to declare a state of urgency and mass obligation to observe the Martyr's Day in demonstration of our expressed desire and ardent demand for a secured homeland as envisioned by Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu," said the Front.
The secretary maintained that the people of the region mark August 29 every year as martyr's day of Haipou Jadonang.
The people observe the day with gloom and sorrow, and honour him for the supreme sacrifice he made on August 29,1931 at Imphal for waging war against the British 'tyranny'.
It pointed out that though Jadonang has made a supreme sacrifice for the freedom of the land, the cause of his death was misconstrued, concealed and manipulated till date by the suppressive power of the rulers of the time.
The government of free India has failed to reckon and account Haipou Jadonang as one of the freedom fighters of India on equal footing with the rest of recognised freedom fighters of India.
It then questioned why India has failed tb recognise Haipou Jadonang and his contributions to the cause of freedom.
"Was it because he fought on his own will without the knowledge of Indians or his resistance movement opposed India in any manner? Does India think that Haipou Jadonang fought for his own country and India is left out of his planned intention? Hpwbeit, Jadonang's movement still stands tall in distinct manner for emancipation from all foreign rules in our homeland," said the ZUF statement.
It further noted that the Zeliangrong and kindred people like in the past remain strong and are determined to uphold and assert their well deserved rights and also demand for their just and due share of rights from the Government of India.
"We shall exert harder with all possible means and ways to fight for our rights to be heard and attended to, for ultimate and acceptable solution to our long drawn political issues," it added.
