National Eye Donation Fortnight observation kicks off

The National Eye Donation Fortnight cum awareness programme was observed at State Opthalmic Cell of National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB & VI) at Lamphelpat today.
The programme was jointly organised by National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment and National Health Mission, Manipur.
Director of Health Services Dr K Rajo, Additional Director of Health Services Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang and Director of Family Welfare Services Manipur, Dr Paozachiin Guite graced the occasion as the presidium members.
The National Eye Donation Fortnight will be observed till September 8 under the theme "Enlight Someone's World, Donate Your Eye" .
Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Rajo said that eyes are the most important organ for a human without which the normal activities becomes a tedious task.
He said that there are many blind people in the country amounting to around 15 million owing to which, the country needs around one lakh eye donor every year.
He further stressed on the importance of eye donation and expressed the need to develop a desire for eye donation in every individual.
Dr K Rajo earnestly appealed all to take utmost care of the eyes and consult a doctor whenever any problem arises.
