Kakching, August 25 2021:
While denouncing the government's alleged failure to ensure fertiliser to the farmers in time and surge in prices of petroleum products, Communist Party of India (CPI) Kakching Local Council has accused the state government of playing with the sentiments of food producers.
In a release, CPI Kakching Local Council recalled the bold statement of minister stating that there is no need to be apprehensive about shortage of fertilisers this year as all the required fertilisers have been gathered by the government.
On the contrary, the farmers are facing scarcity of fertilisers at a time when it is most needed.
Such indifferent attitude of the government is not only infuriating the farmers but will also diminish food production this year, he maintained.
Informing that around 28-29,000 bags of urea is required for Kakching district, the Council said that the government allocated less than 9,000 urea bags to the farmers of the district till August 16 .
Most of the farmlands are yet to see application of urea due to its shortage.
There will be no use of fertilisers if it is not applied in a day or two, the Council maintained and further pointed out that the rice paddy produced by farmers could not be sold.
Farmers might stop cultivating paddy if government does not procure the produces at Minimum Support Price, the council cautioned.
Stating that the hiking of petrol, diesel and LPG prices have directly or indirectly affected the people particularly farmers and daily wage earners, the CPI termed as unfortunate that the government acted as if they tried to save the state by discussing to reduce a few pennies despite hiking the prices all year long.
