Students' police cadet programme launched

Manipur Police Department launched students' police cadet programme at Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Lamphelpat on Friday with the objective to instil a sense of respect, discipline for the law enforcing agencies and to create civic sense among the students.
Education (S) commissioner Harekrishna, DGP P Doungel, ADGP (police modernisation) and student police cadet nodal officer L Kailun, ADGP (LO) Clay Khongsai and KV principal Hari Raj Singh attended the launch programme as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP P Doungel expressed belief that the programme will be beneficial for students in helping one another and choosing the right path in their lives.
He encouraged the students to participate in the programme.
The implementation of the project in Manipur was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, explained the officer.
On the other-hand, L Kailun said that the initiative is a school-based youth development programme for students of up to high school level.
It is organised with the objective to educate the students to respect law, cultivate good morality, inculcate civic sense and help them stay away from social evils.
The project was launched in the country for the first time in 127 schools in Kerala on August 2, 2010.The 41st All India Police Science Congress held in Dehradun in 2011 resolved to implement the programme in all states.
Ministry of Home Affairs is implementing the project under Modernisation of Police Force Scheme through the Bureau of Police Research and Development, New Delhi.
In the first phase, 20 schools were approved for the state.
Master trainers will impart training to students and relevant teaching aids will be provided to the schools.
The second phase of the project will cover 50 schools, he added.
The project, aimed at building a bridge between the police and the community by inculcating values and ethics in the school going students through indoor and outdoor classes and activities, is being implemented by Manipur Police Department in association with the Education department and supported by departments of Transport, Forest, Excise and local self-government.
In his address, Education commissioner M Harekrishna hoped that the project, if successfully implemented, will help in producing good citizens.
He then assured all possible cooperation from the Education department in the successful implementation of the project.
