Imphal, March 02 2015:
All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students' Organisation GHQ (KSO-GHQ) urged the State Government to take immediate measures to regularise the service of hill school contract basis teachers (2006 batch) .
According to a joint memorandum to the Chief Minister O Ibobi signed by General Secretary of ANSAM Jonah K Moa and General Secretary of KSO-GHQ Seiboi Haokip, the students' organisations demanded adoption of a suitable policy to regularize the contract teachers.
The two tribal student's apex bodies said that a good number of contract basis teachers was appointed and engaged by the Directorate of Education (S) - Hills under the memorandum of understanding signed between the Government of Manipur and All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) in 2006 to cater to the educational needs in schools in the hills.
However the service extension order of the teachers and payment of remuneration was made only up to 2008, after which no extension order had been issued despite their rendering of valuable service for the past many years.
The students' bodies further informed that 772 teachers were found genuine by the Directorate after they conducted physical verification as part of the process for service regularisation and extension in 2011 .
They alleged that after conducting the verification the Directorate had promised to put up the matter to the higher authority but no concrete development has been seen till today.
