Imphal, August 08 2021:
Although other parts of the country are slowly recovering from the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Manipur is still in a precarious situation, noted All India Forward Bloc Manipur and urged the state government to review its Covid policy.
In a statement issued by its state secretary Khomdram Gyaneshwar, the Bloc observed that the failure to take control of the second wave of the pandemic despite putting in place curfew and necessary restrictions is a sign of failure on part of the government.
Measures such as making those infected by the Delta variant of the virus isolate at home even if the family is not having facilities for the same; lack or awareness regardinh home isolation and ways of transmission of the virus; making volunteers at CHICs to take care of the patients without precautionary measures; delay adoption of strategic and technical steps on the part of government; lack of communication and coordination among government machineries and lastly, taking lighting the tracing, testing and prompt treatment are some of the main reasons behind the failure of the government effort.
"Starting from the law makers, there should be strict observance of SOPs.
In addition, economic packages should be for low income families who have been affected by the prolonged curfew/lock-downs.
Thus, the state government needs to do a comprehensive review of its Covid policy", the statement asserted.
