Tamenglong, December 20 2011:
A newborn baby died today due to lack of medical facility as the lone district hospital continued to be shutdown totally.
The District Hospital Welfare Association had shutdown the district hospital Tamenglong demanding posting of adequate doctors and nurses.
The seven-day old baby died today after getting treatment from a nearby pharmacy at district HQs.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, relatives of the deceased baby said that DM Wichamdin from Tharon village brought his wife for delivery at the district hospital but she was refused admission by district hospital authority as district hospital employees are on agitation.
As the day came close for her delivery the husband took her to family welfare department and contacted a nurse there and a boy was delivered safely on December 13, 2011 .
But the baby got sick after three days and as the lone hospital continued to be shut down because of the agitation, the family has no choice but to treat the baby in the nearby pharmacy.
However, the condition of the child became critical and passed away at 6 am today.
The dead child's said if the medical facilities were available; the new born baby could have been saved.
They also expressed unhappiness to the Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong for his inability to administer his department.
The fuming relatives said at present there is no problem in the district hospital and asked why the employees shut it down completely without admitting even emergency cases.
It may be recall here that the district hospital has only six doctors against 14 sanctioned posts and only nine nurses against 29 sanctioned posts.
