Imphal, December 20 2011:
Disclosing that it was MPA cadres who ambushed troops of 17 Assam Rifles at Nambashi under Kasom Khullen sub-division in Ukhrul district at about 10 am yesterday, the proscribed UNLF claimed that more than 10 AR personnel suffered casualties in the ambush.
A team of MPA cadres carried out the ambush at a spot located about 15 minutes' walk from the camp of 17 AR by triggering three claymore mines.
Though MPA cadres could not snatch the weapons from the AR personnel as the spot was too near to the AR camp, more than 10 AR personnel were shot in the ambush.
There was no casualty on the part of the MPA cadres.
Even after the MPA cadres had retreated, the surviving AR personnel were firing in all directions out of fear, said a press release issued by the outfit's senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba.
It further claimed responsibility for the ambush against troops of 36 AR at Old Somtal at around 10.30 am of November 15 last.
