HQ IGAR (S) celebrates 10th Raising Day

HQ IGAR (South) added yet another milestone to its glorious and splendid history as it celebrated its 10th Raising Day on 15 March 2013.HQ IGAR (South) was raised in the year 2004 at the historic Kangla Fort before finally re-establishing at its present location at Mantripukhri.
Driven by the urge to usher in the well being of each and every resident of Manipur, the efforts of the last ten years are today visible on the peaceful streets of Imphal and other districts of Manipur.
To mark this momentous day, a large number of programmes such as Meena Bazaar and Pagal Gymkhana will be organised.
A Barakhana will also be organised with invitations extended to personnel from all the Assam Rifles Sectors and Units serving under the IGAR (South).
The event shall also witness perceptible participation by a large number of ex-servicemen of the Force hailing from various parts of Manipur which shall provide them a platform to interact on various welfare aspects and share their inspiring experiences and nostalgic memories.
The grand day took off with a religious gathering to invoke the blessings of the Almighty and was followed by a Special Sainik Sammelan wherein Major General UK Gurung, AVSM, YSM, IG AR (South) conveyed his greetings and best wishes to all ranks of HQ IGAR (South) and applauded their efforts towards creating a conducive and secure environment in the state.
He exhorted the force to strive for the well being and safety of the people of Manipur at all times.
The festivities also included a social evening organised at Officers Mess which was graced by a number of civil and military dignitaries.
Amid festivities, it is also appropriate to place on record the role of Assam Rifles-the oldest paramilitary force in the world.
Fondly called "Friends of North East People", the force has always provided 'strategic depth' to the security environment in Manipur.
IGAR (South) in particular has contributed not only to the security and peace of the state but also has aided the development in the state.
Be it sports, cultural events, youth empowerment or health of people, IGAR (South) has been in the fore front of all the progressive activities.
Its dedication and enthusiasm to bring the state on the road map of development is the reason why Assam Rifles is looked up to whenever the need has been.
Several construction projects which have been undertaken by IGAR (South) on behest of the local population are a testimony to this fact.
Manipuri elegance, talent and performance in sports has also been looked after well by IGAR (South) during the year gone by.
By exploiting the talent in sports, providing them training with, organising sports competitions and sports coaching camps, sports items distribution functions, sponsoring their selection in armed forces and Assam Rifles and giving them a platform to showcase their talent at regional, national and international levels, IGAR (South) has proved that it has been a true friend of the Manipuri people.
The raising day celebrations mark HQ IGAR (South) adding yet another successful year to the annals of the history of the oldest paramilitary force - Assam Rifles and completing a decade of committed service to the people of Manipur.
Since the raising in 2004, IGAR (South) has been working towards welfare and harmony of the local people.
In such a short span of time, it has been able to achieve a lot and continues to strive for excellence in every field.
On its raising day, IGAR(S) takes the opportunity to reassure the people of Manipur that it is an organisation committed to the well being, safety and security of the state.
