World Consumers' Day observed

As in other parts of the world, Manipur joined in observing World Consumers' Day today.
The main observance function was held under the aegis of Consumers' Club Manipur (CCM) at its Paona Bazar head office here today.
According to a release, the Club has settled 120 complaints (from October 2010 to 14th March 2013) thus benefiting many people under Consumers of Goods and 60 cases pertaining to Consumers of Services including Air-travel, courier, misleading advertisements, warrants, post office, mobile service etc.
It also asserted that consumption of tobacco and allied products in the state has increased significantly and CCM would also extend its support and knowledge with concern authority to effectively ban transportation, sale and consumption of tobacco products in Manipur.
On the other hand, Senapati District Consumers' Club observed the day along with an awareness get-together programme at Consumers' office with M.S Jerome, General Secretary, SDCC as the moderator and speeches from different frontal bodies of the district.
The occasion also remembered the departed soul of Late Madam Lucy Chisa, with a two minute silence.
Late Lucy was an Action Committee member who passed away during her mission to Tinsukia for Consumer's rights on LPG issue in Senapati district.
SDCC president Maryna delivering the key note address stated that, despite many challenges and lack of public awareness over consumer rights in the District, the club is pursuing vigorously to check illegal price hike, PDS issues, LPG issue and consumer's issue.
It has also appealed for public participation to successfully carry forward the movement of consumer rights.
Speaking at the occasion, Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) president A.Lolia stated that, the women's organisation is concerned over the frequent price hike of essential commodities which is seriously affecting the poorer section of the people.
The women leader while endorsing his unconditional support to the SDCC has encouraged the club to pursue the present movement with more commitment and for people's welfare.
SDSA president L.R John lauded the undying efforts of the SDCC to pursue the consumer's issue without any prejudice.
The students' body has called for more stricture regulation of essential items quality and its prices.
Representatives from SKAWWA, Mao Students, People's Action for Change, NPMHR, Consumer activist and other dignitaries were present during the said observation programme.
