One killed, three hurt in PLA attack

Imphal, March 15 2013 :
At least one Assam Rifles personnel has been killed while three others sustained injuries in two powerful IED blasts triggered by the banned PLA near H Mongjang village between Khudengthabi and Moreh along Imphal-Moreh road this morning.
The spot where the remote controlled IEDs exploded at about 8 am is around 6 Kms from Moreh town.
It was suspected that the IEDs were kept hanging by the road side.
The incident occured while a team of 9 Assam Rifles were on a Road Opening Patrol and the two bombs exploded in quick succession.
The deceased AR personnel has been identified as Havildar Duman Bahadur (35) while the wounded personnel have been identified as Havildar Thakur Singh (45), Rifleman Apan Jokkam (29) and Upendra Nayak (35) .
The wounded personnel were immediately airlifted by helicopter to Leimakhong military hospital.
It is still not yet clear whether the personnel passed away at the spot or succumbed while being evacuated.

Assam Rifles conducted search operation in the area after the twin blasts because of which movement of vehicles on Imphal-Moreh highway was blocked till around 12.30 pm.
Commandant of 26 Sector Assam Rifles, Brigadier R Mankotia also rushed to the site to take stock of the situation.
People who went shopping to Myanmar's Namphalong market were also frisked at Moreh Gate by Assam Rifles, conveyed a source.
HTC condemns : The Hill Tribal Council, Moreh has strongly condemned the bomb blast and added that Moreh has become a battle ground for 'unlawful people without the slightest thought for the vulnerable civilians' .
In a statement, general secretary of HTC appealed to the perpetrators to put a 'full stop to any form of violence.
Causing fear is not a solution and serves no purpose' .
Such 'threats should be avoided in public places, National Highways, where civilians bear the brunt of the act from security forces,' it added.
