ZU appeals to shun bandhs, strikes

Imphal, December 13 2014 :
After a prolonged consultation with prominent economists, intellectuals, human rights activists, social workers and other subject experts, the Zeliangrong Union of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland has decided to shun any kind of blockade, bandh, general strike or dharna during the festive season of Christmas.
In a press release issued today, the Union, they informed that the decision has been taken to allow free movement of people in the hilly areas enabling them to buy gifts and other essentials from Imphal.
The General Secretary of the Union further observed that it is the right time for their brothers in the valley to let the hilly people enjoy the beauty of the Imphal town and its environment in a peaceful atmosphere while maintaining that this kindness will naturally help in bridging the gap between them.
It further appealed to all the civil organizations and revolutionary groups of the State not to call any type of obstructing acts during this season, in view of various festivals that will be celebrated by the different tribal communities of the state including Gaan Ngai and New Year apart from Christmas.
