North East Sports Conclave held in Imphal

Imphal, December 13 2014 :
A day-long North East Sports Conclave 2014 was held here on Saturday along with a seminar on "Scopes & Potential of North East in Sports" and an interaction session on "Roadmap for Sports University
in Manipur" .
Former Indian Captain of the National Men Hockey Team Bharat Chetri along with Anshu Jamsenpa who claimed Mount Everest three times and ace boxer L Sarita Devi, a three-time world champion, attended the conclave as special guests.
The conclave was organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce in association with North Eastern Council (NEC), Ministry of DoNER Government of India and Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur.
PHED minister and president of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA), parliamentary secretary for YAS, M Prithiviraj, NEC secretary Ameishing Luikham also attended the conclave.
The conclave dwelled on the proposed Sports University to be set up in Manipur.
It acknowledged that Manipur alone has been claiming most of the medals in national and major international sporting events compared to other states of the region.
NEC secretary Luikham assured to improve the present stadium of Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association (MMTA) .
I Hemochndra said the case of boxer L Sarita, who has been banned by AIBA, will be raised in the coming meeting of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) .
He said now many sportspersons from other parts of the country are coming to Manipur which is described as a power house of Indian sports.
Sharing his opinion on the current standard of Indian sports, M Prithiviraj said most of the European countries are serious in the sphere of sport and education for children enabling them to get a lot of medals in international arena.
"It seems India is neglecting the sport sphere as compared to European countries," he observed.
