Urea distributed to farmers at subsidized rate

Imphal, May 29 2014:
With an aim to augment productivity of early paddy crops, Agriculture Minister Md Nasir distributed urea at subsidized rate to farmers of Wangoi Bazar, Yumnam Huidrom Thongkhong Bazar and Mayang Imphal Bazar in Imphal East district today.
Speaking to media persons, S Gunija, Director of Department of Agriculture said that the mobile sale of urea at subsidized rate was initiated considering difficulties faced by farmers in procuring it from local market as there is huge black marketing involved in urea business and informed that the urea was distributed to the farmers at Rs 287 per bag as against Rs 350-400 sold in local market.
Maintaining that paddy crops are planted by farmers in Imphal West district across 1229 acres of agricultural lands, he added that the mobile sale will also be conducted at different parts of Imphal West to be followed by Thoubal and other districts.
As part of the programme, Minister Nasir also visited several agricultural lands in Mayang Imphal where paddy crops are being planted.
A total of 900 urea bags were distributed to the farmers in today's mobile sale.
