Govindas announces welfare programmes for artisans

Imphal, December 20 2012:
Commerce and Industry Minister Govindas Konthoujam announced various welfare programmes including setting up of urban haats in Thoubal and Bishnupur districts for the handloom and handicraft artisans.
Inaugurating the '6th HADO Craft Bazar-2012'organised by Help and Development Organisation (HADO) at Yaiskul Athletic Ground on Thursday, Govindas said that the state government had sent a proposal to the Central government to establish urban haats in notified areas of Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
Another major announcement made by the Minister was that the cash prize of state level handloom and handicraft awards carrying Rs 20,000 at present would increase from 2013 .
Guests of Honour of the function, S Birendra Singh, Functional Manager, Directorate of Commerce and Industry, Government of Manipur assured that under the leadership of Govindas, the department would open a mini museum for handloom and handicraft very shortly.
L Nandakumar Singh, MLA (Uripok AC); T Rolle Vareishim, Assistant Director (H), Marketing & Service Extension Center, O/o D.C Handicraft, Government of India; Kh Somarendro Singh, Director, Institute of Cooperative Management, Lamphelpat and R K Loken Singh, Deputy Manager, State Bank of India also attended the inaugural function.
