Imphal, December 20 2012:
Chief Minister O Ibobi has appealed to the agitating lawyers to call off their cease work strike so that justice can be delivered to the people.
The High Court Bar Association has been on cease work strike demanding appointment of seven Judges from amongst qualified lawyers of the State as and when a separate High Court is set up for the State.
NCP MLA L Ibomcha today raised a call attention motion seeking attention of the Law and Legislative Affairs Minister towards the demand and cease work strike of the High Court Bar Association.
Responding to the motion, Ibobi stated that the Centre has already given its consent to set up a separate High Court for Manipur.
Though the Ministry of Law and Justice assured to reserve for seats of Judge for Manipuri lawyers, no necessary order has been issued so far.
Whereas the Bar Association has been demanding seven seats, the State Government of Manipur has been lobbying with the Government of India and the relevant Ministry to give at least five seats to Manipuri lawyers.
Under such circumstances, it is not advisable for the Bar Association to continue with the cease work strike which is only delaying dispensation of justice, Ibobi stated while appealing to call off the strike.
