World Bank okays power project

Imphal, December 20 2012:
World Bank has given its approval to take up a project of Rs 800 crores in order to improve the power situation in Manipur.
In connection with this proposed project, World Bank officials held a meeting with officials of Electricity Department today.
An official source informed that a five-member World Bank delegation led by energy specialist Rohit Mittal held a meeting in the office of the Chief Engineer of the Power Department and deliberated on priority areas of the project.
The first phase of the project which is aimed at streamlining and improving power systems in the State would be executed with Rs 250 crores.
The first phase includes increasing the number of power sub-stations and installation of 132 KV transmission lines.
