Lions & Lioness Club of Imphal organizes free eye camp

Imphal, January 16 2015 :
As part of the Worldwide Week of Service celebration organized by Lions & Lioness Club of Imphal which started from January 10, a free eye cum cataract detection camp was facilitated by the club at Mongsangei Old Age Home run by All Manipur Senior Citizens Welfare Association on Friday.
Around 100 elderly persons were given eye treatment by doctors of Lions Eye Hospital during the camp in which eight persons were found having cataract problem.
They will be operated at Lions Eye Hospital free of cost.
Free medicines were also provided to those who were found having eye problem.
In connection with the Worldwide Week of Service celebration, Lions & Lioness Club of Club, International Association of Lions Club District 322 also presented eatable items to inmates of Mongsangei BB Paul Mental Development Home which is run by All Manipur Mentally Handicapped Persons Welfare Organization.
The eatable items presented included rice, potato and cereals.
The handing over ceremony was attended by W Bhaktaraj, president of Lions Club of Imphal; W Sumitra, president of Lioness Club of Imphal; Pramo Shija, president of All Manipur Mentally Handicapped Persons Organization and W Ibechaobi, secretary of the organization.
Speaking on the occasion, W Bhaktaraj said that the World Wide Week of Service was celebrated under the aegis of International Association of Lions Club to commemorate the 100-year existence of Lions Club.
He also said that as part of the celebration eatable items and blankets were also presented to inmates of Mongsangei Old Age Home on January 10 and it was followed by a free eye camp organized at Lions Eye Hospital, Sangaiprou on January 12.The birth anniversary celebration of Melvin Jones, founder member of Lions Club was also organized on January 13, he added.
He said that the eatable items were provided by the club to quench the hunger of those who are reeling under starvation.
