Artificial limb camp held

In a noble initiative of extending help to amputees to shed their crutches, stand on their feet and live a normal life, the second phase of "Free Artificial Limb Transplantation Camp" was organised at Leimakhong today.
Organised under the aegis of Red Shield Division, the camp was inaugurated by Lt Gen AK Sahni, SM, VSM, GOC, Spear Corps.
During the camp, Mrs Vineeta Sahni, President of AWWA, Spear Corps also interacted with the amputees and wished good health and happiness to all of them.
The first phase of camp was conducted on 18 Mar 13 at HQ 27 Sector by a team of expert doctors from Jaipur Foot.
During the camp in March, measurements of 19 amputees were taken for fabrication of artificial limbs as per their individual specification and all of them were fitted in today's camp.
According to a statement issued by Red Shield Division, due to grand success of the ongoing campaign, a large number of suffering people all over the Manipur are now approaching for such assistance.
30 fresh cases have been identified and their measurements have been taken to be fitted during the third phase of the camp scheduled to be conducted on August 13.Apart from artificial limbs, calipers were provided to disable persons to help them stand on their feet.
The beneficiaries range from road accident, deformed limb and causalities of the mine blasts triggered by militant groups.
The beneficiaries and attendees expressed their sincere thanks and heartfelt gratitude toward the Red Shield Division, which has been instrumental in organising various Military Civic Action programme with a singular aim of lending a helping hand to the local populace, the statement added.
