'Waree Leeba' festival held

Festival of 'Waree Leeba' on Mahabharata and 'Magha Utsav' were held today at Kongba Kshetri Leikai organised by Repertory of Waree Leeba, Manipur under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
The festival was attended by RD & PR Minister Thongam Biswajit; Budha Chingtham, chairman, Cultural Workers and Activists Forum (CWAF) and P Bilash, director in-charge, JNMDA as presidium members.
Th Biswajit said that 'Waree Leeba' has a deep meaning and carries lessons on discipline and behaviour.
He added the epic Mahabharat contains so many lessons on family, friends and society which will be beneficial in the daily life of everyone.
He added that in early times, the elders used to narrate folktales which had various morales.
This practice has stopped in modern times, he rued.
Th Biswajit also assured that the Government will provide assistance to preserve the art of 'Waree Leeba' .
