Imphal, February 11 2021:
The All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) and All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) have urged the State Government to revoke the show cause notices served for eviction of 10 Churches at Tribal Colony, New Checkon, and Leimakhong.
Speaking to media persons at their office located at Adimjati Complex, Chingmeirong today, AMCO president Reverend Prim Vaiphei said that the district administrations concerned served show cause notices for eviction of 10 Churches - nine in Tribal Colony, New Checkon and one in Leimakhong.
He said that the Churches which were informed for eviction are public Churches.
The AMCO president urged the State Government to revoke the show cause notices at the earliest.
ATSUM general secretary SR Andria said not considering the Churches at the time of regularisation in 2011 was against the principle of secularism enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
He demanded the State Government to make an inclusive regularisation of religious structures in the State.
It may be mentioned that an order passed by the Supreme Court on September 29, 2009 directed all States and Union Territories either to regularise, relocate or evict construction of any religious institution on public places.
