Nupi Samaj sit-in protest continues

Expressing the need for a retrial at a higher Court following the recent acquittal of former ADC Chairman, Lhukhosei Zou who was arrested on the charge of drug smuggling, the All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) in collaboration with various Ima Lups and local clubs, jointly staged sit-in protests at Kongpal, Chingkhulong Kabui Khul, Charangpat, Ningel, Pheidinga and Mayang Langjing, today.
Addressing media persons at the protest staged at Kongpal Laihiden Market shed in Imphal East district by Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup (NLANL), Kongpal Kongkham Leikai Awang Meira Paibi Lup and Industrious Students Association (ISA), Yendrembam Memma, president NLANL appealed to the Government to take the case to a higher Court and award befitting punishments to those involved in the drug case.

At the Chingkhulong Kabui Khul protest organised by the Ereipak Enaat Chanura Loinasinlon (EECHAL), Tongbram Premita, president EECHAL raised questions against the motive of the Government for not taking the case to a higher Court.
In order to restore the faith of the public in the judiciary, she appealed to the Government to take the case to a higher Court and award befitting punishments to those involved in the drug case.
Voicing the same demands, another protest was staged at Charangpat Mamang Leikai Community Hall, Thoubal district by the Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima) and Women Welfare Association, Charangpat Mamang Leikai, where Maisnam Manglembi, secretary information & publicity, Thoubal Ima, alleged that the State Government's "War on Drug" has lost its meaning with the increasing cases of drug abuse among the youth of the State.
The Ningel Apunba Meira Paibi and the Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima), also staged a sit-in protest at Ningel Community Hall in Thoubal district.
Addressing media persons, Moirangthem Sanatombi, general secretary Thoubal Ima, stated that there is a high possibility of serious lapses during the whole investigation process leading to strong suspicion that the case might have been tampered.
Similar protests were also staged at Pheidinga Bazaar in Imphal West District by Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup (NIMPAL) and Pheidinga Women Society; and at Mayang Langjing in Imphal West district by All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and Mayang Langjing Semgat Sagat Lup.
Slogans including 'do not demean war on drugs', 'award befitting punishments to drug smugglers' etc were raised at the end of the protest held at various locations.
