Senapati bodies condemn assault on student

Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and Naga People's Organisation (NPO) have strongly condemned the assault of Ringsanbou Newmai at Maram in Senapati district on July 28 .
A consultative meeting of Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) on Thursday strongly condemned the Maram incident where a college student was brutally assaulted by some unidentified miscreants.
In a press statement issued by SDSA publicity wing, consisting of unit leaders, former presidents, seniors and tribunals voiced against the physical assault of Ringsanbou Newmai on July 28 evening who is now admitted in the ICU of JNIMS in Imphal under serious condition.
The statement stated that, such inhuman treatment on students' community cannot be justified and acceptable.
While appreciating and acknowledging the intervention of the Zeliangrong and Maram tribe leaders into the incident for resolving the incident, the SDSA added that, it is in best interest of the students and general public at large to urgently bring to an amicable settlement to restore peace and serenity in the given social environment.
The meeting also called the concerned authorities to investigate and book the perpetrators and those responsible for the ugly incident to deliver justice to the innocent victim.
"This incident should be the end once and for all and that concerned organizations or bodies should invest all efforts to prevent from such incident in the future, warned SDSA.
While extending support to settling the issue, the SDSA also appealed that, any move to resolve the incident by tribe leaders be expedited by any involving party in order to restore normalcy among different communities.
Also, the Naga People's Organization (NPO), the apex body of the Nagas in Senapati district, has joined voices against the brutal assault of Ringsanbou Newmai, a student studying in Maram on July 28.The NPO vehemently condemned the act and termed it as immaturity, inhuman brutality and irresponsible incident committed by the perpetrators.
The apex Naga body of the district in a statement said that, such incident against the student's community cannot justify correcting a young student with iron fist when the modern education system has propagated leniency, understanding and assistance.
"Taking the law into their hands within the existence of the local bodies and civil bodies is out rightly condemned by all", the NPO added.
"The third degree torture and treatment to the victim is condemned by all and unacceptable to all right thinking citizens and student's community," it also said.
While sending out solidarity to the victim Ringsanbou Newmai who is now struggling in JNIMS ICU in Imphal fighting hard for life due to severe injuries caused by the culprits, the NPO also called for amicable and mutual resolution to the incident.
While appreciating the move of civil bodies to intervene and deal the matter for delivering justice to the victim, the NPO appeals any individual or organization not to drag the name of the college into the incident as the incident happened outside the college and it has no role into the unfortunate incident.
The name of a well-established premier college like Don Bosco College Maram with its 'Peace Zone' demarcation has been exercising its highest form of discipline, integrity and quality for the cause of the student's community.
However, dragging in the name of the college into the incident and ultimatum served is unfortunate and against the wish of the general public, the NPO added.
Meanwhile, taking serious note of the Manipur University issue wherein students were made to vacate their hostels within short notice and atrocities of the Manipur police while confronting the protesting students at Manipur University campus, a team of SDSA members led by its general secretary Shakpa Sebastian met tribal students' leaders in Imphal.
Here, Senapati students also strongly condemned the act of physically assaulting protesting students.
Such brutality of the Manipur police over unarmed innocent students is condemned and opposed in strongest terms.
Meeting the students who were temporarily put up at Government Youth Hostel at Khuman Lampak, the SDSA expressed solidarity to those injured victims who were hurt by police rubber bullets, tear gas and lathi charges at Manipur University campus on August 6 afternoon.
Sources has confirmed that, the SDSA team assured all possible co-operation and support to the Manipur University Tribal Student's Union (MUTSU) in their pursue for any issues.
Meanwhile, the MUTSU has also extended appreciation to the SDSA team for the visit of the tribal students at Imphal and acknowledge the assistance provided by the SDSA to those students.
